Medina, the city of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), is the traditional second step of the Umrah. Unlike Mecca, access to Medina is open to all (including non-Muslims), but it is the Haram district that concentrates most of the pilgrim accommodations.

The Central District — Around Masjid An-Nabawi

The priority area for pilgrims is the perimeter around Masjid An-Nabawi. Hotels within 500m are highly sought after:

5-Star Hotels

  • Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick — Opposite the gate of Masjid An-Nabawi, minaret view
  • Sheraton Al Noor Medina — Large hotel complex with varied restaurants
  • Oberoi Madinah — Islamic architecture, exceptional service
  • Hilton Medina — Well located, often recommended for families

Rates: 200 to 800 SAR/night (~55-210 EUR) depending on season.

Mid-Range Hotels

  • Al Shohada Hotel — Excellent location, reasonable prices
  • Madinah Hilton — Intermediate category, good service
  • Many 3★ hotels on Al-Sittein and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah streets (100-200 SAR/night)

Recommended Stay Duration

For a transit Umrah, 1 to 3 nights in Medina allow you to:

  • Pray in Masjid An-Nabawi (especially Fajr and Isha)
  • Try to access the Rawdah (via Nusuk booking)
  • Visit Masjid Quba, Jabal Uhud and historical sites

Booking Tips

  • Book via Nusuk to guarantee your entry permit to Masjid Nabawi
  • During Ramadan, rates can triple — plan 3 to 6 months ahead
  • Hotels facing gates 1 to 5 of Masjid Nabawi offer the best location
  • Request late checkout if your flight is in the evening

Choosing Your District in Medina

Unlike Mecca, Medina is a relatively calm and pleasant city. Hotels are cheaper, and the atmosphere is more serene. The ideal district for a pilgrim is Al-Anbariyya — a 5-10 min walk from Masjid An-Nabawi — or directly around the Piazza (integrated hotel complex).

Large chain hotels (Hilton, Pullman, Marriott, Anwar Al-Madinah Mövenpick) are directly adjacent to the Prophet’s Mosque and offer stunning views. Trip.com offers allow you to compare and find the best value for money according to the season.

Medina Accommodation Budget

  • Budget: 40-80 EUR/night at 15-20 min from the Haram
  • Mid-range: 80-150 EUR/night at 10 min
  • High-end: 200-400 EUR/night with direct view of the Mosque
