Umrah in transit is not limited to Southeast Asia or Turkey. Jeddah and Medina are hubs connecting to South Asia, Africa, and many other regions of the world. Here is an overview of popular destinations.
Bangladesh (Dhaka)
Direct flights from Jeddah to Dhaka (DAC) with Biman Bangladesh, Saudia, or Saudi Gulf Airlines. Duration: 4–5 hours. No visa required for Bangladeshi nationals. Visa required for other nationalities (apply online at evisa.gov.bd).
Pakistan (Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad)
Pakistan International Airlines (PK) and Saudia operate regular flights Jeddah → Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad. Duration: 3–4 hours. Pakistani e-VISA available online (around $25 USD for French nationals).
Pakistan is home to many important Islamic sites: Data Darbar in Lahore, Mogul mosques, and the historic city of Multan.
Senegal (Dakar)
The Senegalese community performing Umrah is very large. Flights with Air Senegal, Saudia and Gulf carriers. Duration Jeddah → Dakar: 7–8 hours (often with a connection). No visa required for French nationals for stays up to 90 days.
Morocco (Casablanca, Marrakech)
An interesting option to return to Europe via a cultural stop. Royal Air Maroc and Saudia connect Jeddah to Casablanca. Duration: 5–6 hours. French nationals do not need a visa for Morocco.
Casablanca → Paris by train or plane to finalize your return.
United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi)
For those looking for a luxury or shopping stopover. Emirates, Etihad, flydubai operate near-continuous connections from Jeddah. Ideal for shopping or a hotel night before a long return flight.
Sri Lanka, Maldives
Beach destinations accessible from Jeddah via a connection in Dubai or Colombo. Significant Muslim populations. SriLankan Airlines, flydubai.

- Check the validity of your passport (6 months minimum recommended)
