Domestic Flights in Saudi Arabia: Jeddah ↔ Medina
For pilgrims who wish to visit both Mecca and Medina during their transit Umrah, two main options are available for the domestic leg: flight or train. This guide compares both to help you choose.
Available Domestic Flights
The main air route for pilgrims is Jeddah (JED) ↔ Medina (MED). Two airlines operate this route:
- Saudia (SV) — Direct flight, approximately 1 hour. Several rotations daily. Fare: 150 to 350 SAR (approximately €40–90).
- flynas (XY) — Sometimes cheaper, but check less frequent schedules.
Book via the Saudia or flynas apps, or on Google Flights. Present your ID card or passport at check-in.
The Haramain Train: Often the Better Option
The Haramain High Speed Railway (HHR) is often preferable for pilgrims:

Booking Domestic Flights — Practical Guide
Domestic flights in Saudi Arabia can be booked on Saudia (saudia.com) or flynas (flynas.com) — the Saudi low-cost carrier, often 30 to 50% cheaper. You can also use Trip.com to compare both airlines simultaneously.
Note: airports in Mecca (MEG) and Medina (MED) are separate from the city centers. Allow 30 to 45 minutes by road from the Haram. Factor this into your schedule if you have a prayer you cannot miss.
