Hotels in Mecca and Medina: Choosing Your Accommodation for Umrah

Choosing your hotel is crucial for a successful Umrah. Proximity to Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca or Masjid An-Nabawi in Medina directly impacts your spiritual and practical experience.
Hotels in Mecca
Kaaba View and Immediate Proximity
Hotels in the Abraj Al-Bait Towers (Swissôtel, Raffles, Fairmont, Hilton…) offer direct views of the Kaaba. They are ideal but expensive, especially during peak season. Book several months in advance.
Mid-Range Hotels
Within 500m to 1km of the Haram, many 3-4 star hotels offer good value. Expect between 80 and 200 €/night depending on the season. Hotels on the Ajyad or Aziziyah side are within walking distance.
Hotels in Medina
The central area around Masjid An-Nabawi concentrates most pilgrim accommodations. Unlike Mecca, rates are generally more affordable.
- Hotels within 200m: expect premium rates
- Hotels at 500m-1km: good price/comfort compromise
How to Book?
- Nusuk Masar: mandatory booking via the Nusuk app since June 2025
- Booking.com: good selection with flexible cancellation
- Specialized agencies: for complete packages including transport
Important note: booking via Nusuk generates a BRN (Booking Reference Number) now required for Umrah visa issuance.

How to Book Your Umrah Hotel via Nusuk
Since 2023, the Nusuk platform (nusuk.sa) has become the official channel for booking accommodation and Umrah permits. The process is simple: create an account, enter your passport details, choose your dates and hotel from certified establishments. A BRN (Booking Reference Number) is issued — essential for certain types of Umrah visas.
Hotel Budget by Category
- Budget (3★): 60-120 € / night in Mecca, 40-80 € in Medina
- Mid-range (4★): 120-250 € / night in Mecca, 80-150 € in Medina
- Luxury (5★ / Kaaba view): 350 € and above / night — especially Abraj Al-Bait towers
For a short transit of 3 to 5 days, a 4★ hotel within 500m of the Haram offers the best quality/proximity ratio. Book at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance, especially during high demand periods.
Practical Tips
- Ensure the hotel is Nusuk certified (required for classic Umrah visa)
- Prefer establishments with flexible cancellation policy
- In Medina, the central area (5 min walk from Masjid An-Nabawi) is very popular — book early
- Hotels offering half-board are advantageous in Mecca where restaurants around the Haram can be very crowded
